49ers Headed to Titan Invitational
Long Beach State Expected to Send a Mix of Runners to Cal State Fullerton

LONG BEACH, CA --The Long Beach State men’s and women’s cross country teams plan to take a mix of individuals from their first and second groups of runners to Cal State Fullerton for the Titan Invitational on Friday, October 20. The women’s 5K will start at 4:30 pm, followed by the men’s 8K at 5:00 pm.

The 49ers will be sending five runners to compete on Friday. Several of them will be using this meet to prepare for the Big West Championships next Saturday, October 28. Nicole Blalock and Missy Barclay, both of who are coming off decent showings at Pre-Nationals last weekend, are expected to lead the 49ers.

“The women are using this meet as a tune-up for conference,” said Distance Coach Matt Roe. “Everyone racing has had outstanding training the last few weeks, and Friday should be a coming out party of sorts for a handful of our women.”

On the men’s side, Samir Benouar, Steve Cardinalli and Kevin Word are expected to represent Long Beach State. Several others
might join them as well. Benouar had a solid showing at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational a couple weekends ago where he finished with a time of 27:42.8.

“I am excited for the men who are running this Friday, it is a great opportunity to run a lifetime best for everyone,” said Roe. “Samir Benouar has come on real strong as of late and I expect he will have his best race of the season.”
