IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State slugger Troy Tulowitzki (Sunnyvale) led the No. 13-ranked Dirtbags (23-10, 4-0 Big West) to all three of its runs as Cesar Ramos (7-3) won his fourth straight in a 3-2 victory on Friday evening over host UC Irvine (14-14, 1-3 Big West). Tulowitzki drove in two runs on the night, including the go-ahead solo homer in the eighth, and was intentionally walked in another at-bat leading to another run, as Long Beach State took its sixth in a row.

Ramos went the first 8.0 innings, giving up just two runs on five hits, walking none and striking out eight. At one point Ramos retired eight in a row followed by another six straight as a single sandwiched the two streaks. Neil Jamison pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save.

A double followed by a single to leadoff of the eighth inning put two runners with no outs to start the eighth, before a one-out grounder closed the gap to 3-2. Ramos though was able to strikeout Matt Anderson to end the threat.

After Chris Nicoll (4-2) retired 14 in a row, he could not catch an underhand toss to first to leadoff the sixth inning, leading Steve Velazco to be save at first. Following a bunt, a popup and an intentional walk to Troy Tulowitzki, Sean Boatright came through with a two-out single to left-center to give the Dirtbags a 2-1 lead.

Tulowitzki made it 3-1 with a solo homer in the eighth, his second homerun of the week. Nicoll left the ballgame after 8.0 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits.

The Dirtbags took a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to Tulowitzki's one-out triple after Evan Longoria led off the game with a single. UC Irvine tied it in the second as a Jaime Martinez's groundout plated Mark Wagner, who led off the inning with a single.

The conference series continues on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark. LBSU began a four-game roadtrip tonight and will play seven of their next 10 on the road.
