49ers Split Gaucho Invitational's Second Day
SANTA BARBARA, CA-- No. 4-ranked Long Beach State (8-2) will play for third place at the Daktronics Gaucho Invitational, after splitting the second day of competition, defeating No. 5-ranked Loyola Marymount 7-4 before falling to top-ranked UCLA 7-3. Against the Bruins, LBSU could not overcome a 4-2 deficit as Bri Hawkins (San Diego) had her second-straight stellar game in net, tallying 10 saves, after knocking back 11 against the Lions. To start the day, Hawkins made 11 saves in net, while Robyn Gordin (Cerritos) tallied four goals as the 49ers defeated No. 5-ranked Loyola Marymount 7-4 on Saturday afternoon. LBSU led 5-2 at the half and at 6-3 for much of the second half. Cassie Azevedo added two goals in the winning cause and three on the day. The 49ers will play Stanford for third place tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
