Canetti Debuts Niners Sweep First Day

Canetti Debuts with Team-High Three Goals
SANTA BARBARA, CA-- No. 4-ranked Long Beach State (7-1) swept the first day of the Daktronic Guacho Invitational, opening up with a 16-5 win over Redlands before taking care of No. 11-ranked Michigan 6-4 in the night cap. Jessica Levin (Seal Beach) and Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach) tallied four goals a piece on the day, while Marina Canetti (Rio de Janeiro) made her collegiate debut with three goals. Canetti, a member of the Brazilian National Team, made her long awaited debut in a Long Beach State uniform, scoring a team-best three goals in the 49ers 16-5 rout of Redlands to open up the Gaucho Invitational on Friday morning. Canetti had been waiting for her paperwork to clear prior and had missed the first two weeks of the season. Levin added three goals as well, while Christina Wensman (Mercer Island, WA) chipped in two as The Beach went up 6-1 after one period and nver looked back. The 49ers added seven more goals in the third period, two by Canetti, to lead 14-3 after three periods. In the nightcap, LBSU led 6-0 at the half paced by three goals from Azevedo. Bri Hawkins had an incredible night in goal, making 14 saves.
