Former Olympian, Scott, Signs on as Coach

Scott Hired as New Sprints & Hurdles Coach LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State track and field announced the hiring of Yvonne Scott as its new hurdles and sprints coach. Scott has been a member of the Japanese National Program, most notably in the 100-meter hurdles, since 1996, competing in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics and just missing out on the games in 2004. At the Olympic Games in Sydney, Scott reached the semi-finals in the 100-meter hurdles. During her collegiate career Scott was an All-American sprinter at the University of Colorado. "Yvonne has everything I was looking for in a sprints coach," said Head Coach Andy Sythe, who will enter his 16th season as head coach. "She is a charismatic motivator who will go out and win the confidence of area high school and community college coaches and athletes. She is a coach who the athletes will respect and in turn, want to run for." Scott served as assistant coach at Sacramento State from 1999 to 2001, helping develop the Hornets sprint program. Most recently, she has completed her competitive career which she has focused on since 2001. |
