Garcia, Azevedo Named All-Americans NORRISTOWN, PA-- Long Beach State senior driver Angelica Garica (Catano, PR) and sophomore attacker Cassie Azevedo (Long Beach/Wilson HS) were each named All-Americans by the College Water Polo Association. Garcia, who finished her career with a school-record 206 goals, and a team-best 57 tallies in 2004, was named to the All-America team for the fourth straight year. It was the first time she was named to the first team. Garcia, Long Beach State's only four-time All-American, was a third teamer in 2001 and 2003, and was an honorable mention pick in 2002. Garcia shot a team-best .553 adding 41 steals in 2004. Garcia was named first team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation earlier this year. Azevedo was named an All-American for the first time, earning a spot on the third team. Azevedo, who was also a first team All-MPSF selection, tallied 47 goals, and led the team with 56 steals and 47 assists. Azevedo shot .370 from the pool. The Beach finished off the 2004 campaign with its second-straight 20-win season, going 21-9 overall. Six of the team's seven starters are slated to return for 2005. |
