Garcia Named MPSF's Player of the Week

Garcia Earns Third Career Weekly Honor WOODLAND, CA-- Senior driver Angelica Garcia (Catano, Puerto Rico) was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's co-Player of the Week after leading the No. 4-ranked Long Beach State 49ers (19-6, 6-4 MPSF) to four wins at their own tournament. The school's all-time leading scorer tallied 12 goals and shared the honor with Stanford goalie Meredith McColl. Garica has a team-best 49 goals this season, the ninth-best single-season total in the program's seven years. Garcia broke the all-time scoring record in the first of April and has 198 goals in her four-year career. This is the second MPSF honor for the 49ers this season, as Cassie Azevedo earned her first career honor back on April 4. This is Garcia's first weekly honor in two seasons and third overall, tying her with Roberta Stewart The Beach will play two contets this week, an exhibition with the U.S. National Team at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21 and the regular season finale, on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. LBSU will serve as hosts of the MPSF Championships at Los Alamitos Naval Air Station beginning on April 30. |
