Oregon Tops LBSU, 4-3 Bouffler Upsets #7-Ranked Player at No. 1 Singles
April 16, 2004 LONG BEACH, CA -- The Long Beach State women's tennis team fell to the Oregon Ducks, 4-3, in the final regular season match at the Campus Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. LBSU, ranked No. 59 fell to 15-8, while Oregon, ranked No. 34, improved to 15-8.
The 49ers started strong to begin the day, capturing all three doubles matches for the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles duo of Nicole Bouffler and Sandra Rocha topped Oregon's duo of Daria Panova and Courtney Nagle, 8-5. Kelly Chan and Alanah Carroll collected the No. 2 doubles victory over Dominika Dieskova and Anna Leksinska, 8-4. And Emmanuelle Tabatruong and Krystina Katayama won the No. 3 doubles match over Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu, 8-6.
Oregon rallied however in singles competition, capturing four out of the six singles points. The lone upset of the match came at the No. 1 singles, as Bouffler defeated the No. 7-ranked player in the country, Panova, 6-3, 6-3. Dieskova (ranked No. 68 in the country) defeated Chan at the No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Long Beach State collected a singles victory at No. 5, as Rocha defeated Leksinska, 6-1, 7-5.
Long Beach State will next be in action at the Big West Conference Championships as the No. 3 seed, Apr. 23-26 at Indian Wells. DOUBLES #1-Bouffler/Rocha (LBSU) def.
