Azevedo Leads Beach to Two on Sunday

Beach Sweep Doubleheader on Sunday LONG BEACH, CA-- Cassie Azevedo scored six goals over two games on Sunday as the No. 4-ranked Long Beach State women's water polo team (10-3, 2-1 MPSF) won its conference matchup with UC Irvine (6-10, 1-4 MPSF), 8-4, before taking care of CS Northridge, 9-4. LBSU goalie Bri Hawkins tallied 10 saves over two games, giving up just two goals, while Angelica Garcia added four scores, and Drue Wawrzynski had three. Garcia went to work in the second game, giving The Beach a 2-0 lead in the first as LBSU pitched a shutout over three periods, before CSUN scored four times off of backup goalie Claire Howie in the fourth period. Garcia had three goals in the afternoon afair with the Matadors, while Azevedo, Wawrzynski and Robyn Gordin had two a piece. The 49ers head to America's Finest City next weekend, traveling to UC San Diego on Saturday at 3 p.m. and at San Diego State on Sunday at noon.
