McCauley's RBI Single Gives LBSU 20 Wins

FRESNO, CA -- The No. 25-ranked Long Beach State softball concluded the Clovis Auto Row Softball Classic with a 1-0 victory over San Diego State on Sunday afternoon. Long Beach State went 3-3 in the four-day tournament. Long Beach State is now 20-7 on season.

Long Beach State scored its lone run of the game in the top of the second inning after Jamie Farnworth led off with a single to center field. Marcel Torres then connected for a sacrifice bunt to advance Farnworth to second base. Farnworth then advanced to third base after Roxanne Staniorski grounded out to the short stop. Melanie McCauley then connected for a single to right field to plate Farnworth.

That was all starting pitcher Marcel Torres needed as she allowed just three hits and four strikeouts. Torres is now 9-2 on the season.

Long Beach State faces Canisius for a double-header on Wednesday, March 17 at the 49er Complex beginning at 1:00 p.m.
