Grabow Earns Second Weekly Honor IRVINE, CA-- Long Beach State cross country runner Jimmy Grabow (Running Springs) picked up his second Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honor of the season after racing to the third-fastest time in school-history last Saturday at UC Riverside. "Jimmy has run very well for us all season," said first year Distance Coach Matt Roe. "We expect a solid month of training from him in preparation for the conferece meet where he should be very competitive. Then it is on to Regionals, where we could see one the strongest performances on the men's side in nearly 20 years." Grabow finished second at the UC Riverside Invitational, running 24:23.20 on the same course as this year's Big West Championships. Grabow's time is the fastest time by any 49er since Dave Schumacher ran 24:19 in Tempe, Arizona in 1987. Pat Green holds the all-time mark with a time of 23:57 in 1978. Grabow moved into the top-five all-time on September 25, when he ran 24:42 at Stanford. Grabow is in his first year at The Beach after transferring from San Bernardino Valley College. This is the first and now second time all-time that the distance program has garnered conference athlete of the week honors. |
