Women 6th, Men 8th at UCR Invite

WOMEN 6TH, MEN 8TH AT UCR INVITE RIVERSIDE, CA --The Beach cross country team posted a solid performance this Saturday at the UC Riverside Invitational. The women finished sixth (149 points) of 14 teams, while the men (241 points) finished 8th of 29 teams. The men's team was led by sophomore Arturo Garcia (Chino) finishing 26th overall. Garcia posted a lifetime best of 25:11.10, moving him onto the Long Beach State all-time top-ten list for the first time in his LBSU career. His time was also the number one time for any male 49er on the Riverside course. Senior Cory Martin (So. Lake Tahoe) and junior Kenny Lawrence also had lifetime bests. Martin's time of 25:27.60 was the second fastest time by a male 49er on the Riverside course, while Kenny Lawrence's time of 25:53.90 was the fifth fastest all-time for that course. Standout freshman Nicole Blalock (Orange) led the women with a 14th place finish overall. Her time of 18:15.00 was the third fastest time on that course. JC transfer Crystal Roethlisberger (Tulare) finished just behind Blalock in 16th place with a personal best of 18:25.20. Her time was the fourth fastest time on that course for a 49er woman. Senior Diane Mendoza had a career day running a personal best of 19:00.30, cutting nearly 15 seconds off her previous best. The Beach cross country team will next be in action when they head to the Stanford Invitational September 27. WOMEN'S RESULTS: Winner: Erin Nehus, Track West (17:34.50), 14.
