Beach Unbeaten in Honolulu 49ers Win Two More Over Cal Baptist and New Zealand
HONOLULU - The No. 4-ranked 49ers (16-5) will return from the Big Island, unbeaten, winning five times and tying once over three days, after defeating Cal Baptist 14-3 and New Zealand 8-3 on the second day of the Rainbow Challenge. The Beach began its roadtrip with a conferene win over Hawaii on Thursday, before defeating UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego on Friday. The team's lone tie, came to Australia, also on Friday. Against Cal Baptist on Saturday, The Beach scored nine unanswered goals in its 14-3 rout of Cal Baptist. After a Holly Curran goal pulled the Lancers to within 5-3 with 4:26 remaining in the second period, LBSU shut out Cal Baptist the rest of the way. Alison Braden scored both of her goals in the third period. Four players, Drue Wawrzynski, Cassie Azevedo, Alison Braden and Ashley Richardson had two goals a piece. Against New Zealand, LBSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half, en route to an 8-3 victory over New Zealand. Goalkeeper Bri Hawkins limited New Zealand to just three goals while recording14 saves.
