XC HEADS TO PORTLAND FOR REGIONALS LONG BEACH, CA--The Beach cross country team will travel to Portland, OR this weekend to compete at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships. The race will be held at the University of Portland on Saturday, November 15. Women will run a 6k race, while the men will run a 10k race. The women's team will look to build off of a solid performance at the Big West Conference Championships two weeks ago in which they finished sixth overall. Leadng the way for the women will be freshman Nicole Blalock (Orange) and junior Jennifer Yadon (Lancaster). Blalock is coming off of an all-conference performance (7th overall at the BWC Championships) and will be racing for a top-25 finish. She has a seasonal best of 22:23 in the 6k race. Yadon (23:38) is coming off of a solid 18th place finish at the conference championships and will also be gunning for a top-25 finish. Last season, Yadon earned all-region honors after finishing 22nd overall. The men will look to redeem themselves after a disappointing seventh place finish at the conference meet. "We know we can run better then we did at conference, and now is our chance to prove it," said Distance Coach Geoff Masanet. Junior Terrance Wroblewski will be the strongetst contender on the team for a chance at the National Championships on November 24 at Northern Iowa University. Wroblewski earned all-conference honors at the BWC Championships with a tenth place finish and will be in serious contention for a top-25 finish and berth to the national meet. Senior Brian Stehmeier (Running Springs) and Cory Martin (So. Lake Tahoe), and junior Kenny Lawrence (Ramona) will also play a pivotal role in the men's finish at regionals. The men cracked into the regional rankings for the first time in several years (15th) earlier this season and will look to regain that regional ranking at the meet. |
