Big West Championships Moved to Cal Poly SLO

BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS MOVE TO CAL POLY SLO LONG BEACH, CA--The Beach cross country team will travel to San Luis Obispo to compete at the Big West Cross Country Championships this Saturday. UC Riverside was originally slated to host the championships before wildfires forced conference and school officials to move the meet. "We are glad this meet wasn't cancelled," said Distance Coach Geoff Masanet. "It doesn't matter where the meet is, we will come prepared to run our best and smartest race," Masanet added. Both the men's and women's teams are hoping for a top-four finish.after finishing seventh, and eighth respectively, last season. The women will be led by freshman star Nicole Blalock (Orange). Blalock has shined this season as the number one runner for The Beach with a seasonal best of 18:13. Junior Jennifer Yadon (Lancaster, 19:33) will also pose a threat in the conference race. Last season, Yadon finished fourth and went on to earn all-region honors for The Beach. Crystal Roethlisberger (Tulare, 18:25), Diane Mendoza (Cerritos, 19:00), Jaclyn Pedersen (Simi Valley, 19:33), Sharon Burnett (Springfield, OR, 19:12), Tarah Novelli (Lancaster, 19:47), Molly Roche (Arleta, 21:41), and Gretchen Witowich (La Mirada, 20:47) will round out the women's team. Junior Terrance Wroblewski (Half Moon Bay) will lead a strong men's team after coming off a first-place finish at the Long Beach Invitational this past weekend. Wroblewski has been the number one runner for The Beach and has a seasonal best of 24:45. The men's race for a top conference finish will be bolstered by the depth of the squad. Seniors Brian Stehmeier (Running Springs, 25:35) and Cory Martin (So. Lake Tahoe, 25:27), along with Arturo Garcia (Chino, 25:11), Kenny Lawrence (Ramona, 25:53), Jake Kruczynski (Pacifica, 25:55), Daniel Estrella (Long Beach, 26:19), Wolhan Ovalle (Vacaville, 26:10), and Aaron Trunnell (Oceanside, 26:00) will play important roles in the final point standings. The men's 8k race will begin at 8:30 am, followed by the women's 6k race at 9:30 am.
