Second Day Results At Fullerton Invitational
Nicole Bouffler Advances To Championship Singles Semifinals
October 11, 2003 FULLERTON, CA-- The Long Beach State women's tennis team had another strong showing at the CS Fullerton Invitational on Saturday. In singles action, junior Nicole Bouffler won two matches in the championship draw and advanced to Sunday's semifinals. Bouffler defeated Casey Cross (UC Riverside) in the third round, 6-2, 6-3 and then came back to beat UCI's Jayme Hu, 6-4, 7-5, in the fourth round. Bouffler will take on Pepperdine's Karin Schlapbach at 9 am in one semifinal Sunday morning. Four other 49ers fell in singles third round action, as Lindsey Marvel, Claudia Arguemdo, Tammy Day and Kelly Chan all lost.
In doubles, it will be an all LBSU final in the championship draw as Lindsey Marvel/Alanah Carroll will face Tammy Day/Nicole Bouffler. Marvel/Carroll defeated fellow teammates Kelly Chan/Sandra Rocha 8-4 in its first match on Saturday and they downed Inapulat/Tran of CS Fullerton, 8-6. Day/Bouffler defeated Le/Sisoe of CSUF 8-6 and then won 8-4 over Pepperdine's Dickes/Schlapbach.
In consolatioin singles play, Jessica Konrad, Krystina Katayama and Alanah Carroll all won second round matches and advance to quarterfinal action on Sunday. The doubles team of Arguemdo/Katayama won two matches in the consolation doubles bracket and are also still alive.
