Garcia and Richardson Join Stewart Amongst Nation's Best NORRISTOWN, PA-- Not bad for her first season, right?
Freshman Roberta Stewart (Auckland, New Zealand) became the Long Beach States first ever, first team All-American, after leading the 49ers to its most successful season ever, at 19-13, and a No. 4 national rankings. Earlier this month, Stewart became the 49ers first ever, first team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation selection.
Stewart is one of three 49ers to be named to this years U.S. Water Polo Coaches Assocation All-America squad. It was the first time in school history that The Beach garnered more than one honoree, as both sophomore Angelica Garcia (Cantano Puerto Rico) and junior Ashley Richardson (San Diego, CA) were named honorable mention All-Americans.
Stewart led the 49ers with 65 goals (third-best single season total) and 37 steals. Garcia finished second on the team with 53 goals and a .387 attack percentage, earning her second straight post-season honor, after earning third team All-America status in 2001. Garcia was named honorable mention All-MPSF earlier this month, along with Stewart.
Richardson finished the season with 45 goals and a team-best .445 attack percentage. Richardson was named honorable mention All-MPSF in 2001.
Los Alamitos High and Stanford goalie Jackie Frank (Stanford) was named the National Player of the Year. |
