LBSU Loses to Stanford -- Still Playing For Highest Finish Ever LOS ANGELES, CA-- Long Beach State's storybook run for their first berth into the NCAA Final Four ended on Saturday afternoon, as the fifth-seed 49ers (19-12) lost to top-seeded Stanford (21-1) 10-4 in the semifinals of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The Beach will still play for their highest finish ever, when they play for third place at the MPSF Championships against host USC at 3 p.m.on Sunday. If LBSU wins on Sunday, it would be their first ever 20-win season. On Saturday, freshman Drue Wawrzynski continued to tear apart MPSF opponents, leading The Beach with two goals, after scoring six goals on Friday, including the go-ahead goal in the team's upset win over fourth-seeded Cal.
