One of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, Pete Manarino compiled a career mark of 843-508-2 (.624) in his 23 years (1984-2006) as the head softball coach at Long Beach State. Manarino led the 49ers to five College World Series appearances (1986, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993) during his tenure and won five league championships (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2005). He was named the league's Coach of the Year five times (1986, 1997, 1999, 2003, 2004) and led the 49ers to 17 NCAA Regional appearances. During his time he coached 86 all-conference selections, 30 all-region selections and three All-Americans. He was selected into the Long Beach Softball Hall of Fame in its original class. His 843 career victories ranks No. 21 all-time among NCAA Division I softball coaches. He led Long Beach State to 40 or more victories seven times, and in 2004 the 49ers set a school record with 51 victories as they went 51-13 on the year, won the Big West title and won three games at the 2004 NCAA Regionals, falling one game short of reaching the regional finals. He had only one losing season in his 23 campaigns at the helm of the 49er program and finished with a 403-255 record in conference games. A 1984 graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Manarino earned his Masters degree in education in 1984 from Azusa Pacific.
