Long Beach State head women's golf coach Joey Cerulle has announced the hiring of Kassidy Teare as assistant coach.

"Kassidy was one of the greatest players in Beach Golf history," said Cerulle.  "I'm thrilled that she is able to come back and share with the team what it takes to be highly successful in college.  I know she loves Long Beach State and will do whatever it takes to bring a championship to the Beach."

"I am honored to join Coach Cerulle and continue to support the student-athletes at LBSU," said Teare.  "I know there will be challenges and a lot of learning experiences for me, but I could not be more excited for it all.  Being able to stay involved and give back to a program that has given me so much over the last four years was an opportunity that I could not pass up."

Teare graduated from LBSU this past season after completing her four-year career at the Beach.  The Vista, Calif. native is only the second women's golfer in program history to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Tournament two years in a row as former 49er All-American Kay Hoey qualified in 2005 as a freshman and 2007 as a junior.

Teare received at-large bids to the NCAA St. George Regional last year in St. George, Utah and to the NCAA Stanford Regional this past year.

Last fall season, Teare captured individual medalist honors at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Colorado, followed by back-to-back second-place finishes at the Las Vegas Showdown and the All There August Challenge in Texas. At the Las Vegas Showdown, Teare shattered the program record for a three-day score by nine strokes, carding a 16-under 200 (68-66-66) on the 6,277-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club course.

Teare was named Big West Women's Golfer of the Year this past season, becoming the first LBSU player to garner player of the year accolades since Hoey earned the distinction in 2007. Teare played in all 10 tournaments for the 49ers this year, that was highlighted by five top-five finishes, two Big West Golfer of the Month accolades for October and April, and led the conference with a stroke average of 72.1.

"I am looking forward to helping each player on this team as specifically as I can," said Teare.  "Golf is so unique and individual, therefore so is each player. Managing the needs of everyone's game, helping solve any adversity that may arise, and watching them perform at the highest level. I am also looking forward to learning from everyone I can. I am surrounded by the best staff and facilities around, it's going to be a great experience."
