Hired by Long Beach State prior to the 2019 season as the Director of Baseball Operations, Ryan Day was retained by head coach Eric Valenzuela and transitions into the Volunteer Assistant position following the pandemic and suspension of the 2020 season.
In that position, Day is responsible for working with the catchers as well as coordinating prospect and youth camps.
Day helped guide Connor Burns to being the 2022 Big West Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore was the first winner of the award since 2017 and just third in program history. He was also named a finalist for the Rawlings/Gold Glove Award.
Day came to the Beach from his alma mater, Concordia University in Irvine, where he spent six seasons as a coach where he served as the pitching coach, the assistant recruiting coordinator, camp coordinator and alumni coordinator.
Day played two seasons with the Eagles, primarily as a relief pitcher, and was part of the program’s first ever NAIA National Championship team in 2011. Prior to his time at Concordia, Day was a catcher and outfielder at Fullerton College.
Day earned his Bachelor’s in Communications in 2011 at Concordia and went back to earn his Master’s in Coaching & Athletic Administration in 2014.
