MLB/Summer League: Drafted in the sixth round by the Devil Rays in 2002, deciding to go to LBSU in the Spring of 2003... was a member of Team USA in the Summer of 2004 along with teammate shortstop Troy Tulowitzki... went 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA as the Americans won a gold medal in the World Championships in Taiwan... made seven appearances with four starts, tossing 27.0 innings, giving up 25 hits... struck out 21 and walked three for a .250 opponent batting average... also led the team in batting (1.000).
2005 Pre-Season: Named a pre-season first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA and was a third team selectioin by Baseball America.... projected as a first or second round pick, according to Baseball America.
LBSU 2004: Named second team All-Big West and a second team All-American by collegebaseballinsider.com after going 12-4 with a 2.29 ERA over 19 starts... hurled 133.2 innings, giving up just 108 hits... struck out 97 and walked just 35 for a .226 opponent batting average... ranked third in the Big West in ERA, fourth in wins and innings pitched and sixth in strikeouts... tied for 10th in the nation in wins and was 27th in the nation in ERA... named All-Regional Tournament following 7.1 innings at Stanford on June 66, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out nine to send The Beach into the Super Regional... a week later kept LBSU’s post-season hopes alive with 6.1 innings against Arizona in the Super Regional, sending The Beach into the Super Regional Championship... named a Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week following 8.0 innings in a win at CS Fullerton on April 3, tossing just 93 pitches and pitching to three batters in seven of eight innings, giving up one run on three hits... struck out a then-career-best eight in a complete game win against San Diego State at Petco Park on March 13, retiring the last 12 in a row... used just 108 pitches to do it... produced a 5-1 record an 1.87 ERA over seven starts from mid-February to mid-April... hurled 8.2 shutout innings against Pacific on May 8, giving up three hits and striking out eight, teaming with Weaver for the second back-to-back shutout of the season (first was at Petco Park)... had a no-hitter through six, before giving up the go-ahead run in the eighth against CS Fullerton on May 22, giving up two runs (one earned) over 7.2 innigs... struck out a career-best 10 against UC Santa Barbara on May 1, leaving in a 2-2 tie with runners on the corners... went 5.2 innings in that contest.
LBSU 2003: All-Regional Tournament after 7.0 shutout innings against Washington in game that sent the 49ers to the Super Regional in Palo Alto, giving up six hits... came in at the semester and emerged as the team’s Sunday starter in late February... ranked fourth in the Big West in ERA (one of three 49ers in the top-four), and opponent batting average... his six wins ranked 10th... third on the team with a 6-4 record on one of the nation’s top staffs, compiling a 2.85 ERA over 17 games and 14 starts... hurled 88.1 innings behind All-Americans Jered Weaver and Abe Alvarez... opponents batted just .247 against him has he gave up just 80 hits over 88.1 innings... won his last five decisions... gave up one or less runs in 10 of 17 appearances... hit a stretch from March 29 against CS Fullerton to May 11 against UC Riverside where he gave up just eight earned runs over 53.0 innings, going 4-1 with a 1.36 ERA over seven starts... only complete game came on 106 pitches at Pacific on May 4, as the lefty gave up two runs on five hits, striking out a career-high six... benefited from five of an NCAA record-tying seven double plays over 6.0 innings against UCR on May 11 to pick up win giving up three runs (one earned) on 10 hits... gave up a run in the first before scattering three of his six hits over the next six plus innings as The Beach won the rubber game at Baylor on March 9... opened his collegiate career with 5.2 shutout innings of relief against Arizona State, giving up three hits, retiring 14 in a row.
High School: Earned three varsity letters in baseball at El Rancho HS... all-area at two positions-- outfield as a senior, and as a utilityman as a junior... all-league pitcher in 2002... Pitcher of the Year as a junior... once struck out 16.
