Bio
Summer League: Played for the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League for the previous two summers... in 2004 went 2-3 with a 2.85 ERA over seven games and six starts... hurled 47.1 innings, giving up 46 hits, striking out 32 and walking just six... had an impressive summer of 2003, producing an 0.32 ERA for Alexandria in the Northwoods Summer League... appeared in 16 games, all in relief, going 3-0 over 28.1 innings... gave up just 11 hits and one earned run, striking out 29 and walking 11... played for the North County Waves in the summer of 2002… strong summer before breaking his hand, compiling an 0.64 ERA in seven appearances… tossed 14 innings, walking just four and striking out 14, with one save.
2004 (Junior): As the team’s primary setup man went 0-2 with a 2.98 ERA over 28 appearances and 42.1 innings... hurled 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings to begin the year... picked up a save on the opening week at California on February 7 pitching the final 2.2 no-hit innings... his other save came at Pepperdine on May 4 after the Waves closed to within 11-10, he came on and retired six in a row before giving up an infield single in the ninth... produced a 1.95 ERA over his first 21 outings... kept a scoreless tie in the middle innings against Wichita State in an eventual 2-1 win, going 2.1 innings, giving up just one hit... got the final five outs at Stanford in the NCAA Regional on June 6, to send The Beach into the Super Regionals... got the final eight outs against Arizona in the Super Regional on June 12 to send the Dirtbags into the Super Regional Championship game.... hit a tough stretch in mid-May when he produced a 12.60 ERA in outings against UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton and Miami.
2003 (Sophomore):Â Appeared in 10 games with a 1-0 record and 5.56 ERA over 11.1 innings... struck out 11 and walked two... after giving up four earned runs over his first 1.2 innings, gave up just three earned the rest of the season, spanning 9.2 innings and eight games (2.79 ERA)... did not give up a run in six of his 10 outings... came on in relief and picked up his first collegiate win at UCLA with two shutout and no-hit innings on April 8, striking three of the final four batters he faced as 49ers came back to win game 5-3... one of three 49ers to pitch a scoreless inning against LMU on April 1 in 11-6 loss... pitched the final two shutout, no-hit innings against Miami on May 22.
2002 (Freshman): Appeared in four games on the season, pitching 3.1 innings, compiling a 5.40 ERA as a freshman… gave up two earned runs on three hits, struck out four and walked four… struck out two in one inning of work against Fresno State on February 26… struck out two more, giving up one hit versus UC Santa Barbara on April 13… pitched one inning of work with one walk and one hit at Cal on February 16… walked three, gave up a wild pitch and one hit, as two Toreros scored over 0.1 innings on April 24 in San Diego.
High School: A three-sport athlete lettered three years in football and basketball and four in baseball for Laguna Hills High School … All-CIF, all-county, three-time all-Sea View League in baseball... team MVP twice... named first team all-league at punter and at receiver in football... also named team MVP... school’s Athlete of the Year... team won league in football and basketball (twice) and reached semifinals in baseball.
