Cherrie Cox scores her eighth goal of the season as the Beach move to 5-1-2
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State suffered their first loss of the 2026 season Saturday night, falling 5-1 to Utah at George Allen Field.
The loss snapped a program-best seven-match unbeaten start for the Beach, who move to 5-1-2 on the season. Cherrie Cox scored Long Beach State's lone goal, extending her scoring streak to three consecutive matches.
The Beach fell behind early as Utah scored three times in the opening 23 minutes to take a 3-0 advantage. Long Beach State was held without a shot in the first half, while Aurora Schuck made two saves to keep the score at 3-0 entering halftime.
Long Beach State came out with more attacking pressure in the second half, earning a corner kick in the 48th minute before Radisson Banks recorded the Beach's first shot in the 64th. Ruby Mansour followed with another attempt four minutes later.
The Beach broke through at 69:58 after drawing a foul in the box. Cox converted the ensuing penalty kick to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The goal was Cox's eighth of the season and her third in as many matches. The senior has scored in five of Long Beach State's eight contests and leads the Beach with eight goals and 17 points.
Cox also continued her climb through the Long Beach State career record book. She now has 31 career goals, 12 assists and 74 points in 56 appearances for the Beach.
Utah added two goals over the final 13 minutes to close out the 5-1 result.
Long Beach State generated all five of their shots in the second half, with Banks recording two and Cox, Mansour and Kailey Supa adding one apiece. Schuck finished with five saves.
Long Beach State returns to the road Thursday, Sept. 17, traveling to Nevada.
