Long Beach State returns home unbeaten at 5-0-2 after a win against Portland and a draw against Grand Canyon

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- After navigating their first two matches without a shutout, Long Beach State returns to George Allen Field with their unbeaten record intact. The Beach host Utah at 7 p.m. Saturday after defeating Portland 2-1 and rallying for a 1-1 draw at Grand Canyon last week.

KICKOFF
• Long Beach State returns to George Allen Field to host Utah on Saturday, September 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Beach put their unbeaten 5-0-2 record on the line against the Utes.

• The Beach defeated Portland 2-1 at home before earning a 1-1 draw at Grand Canyon. Long Beach State has won five and tied two of their first seven matches while scoring 14 goals and allowing only two.

• Long Beach State's five-match shutout streak ended against Portland, but the Beach answered after allowing their first goal of the season. Ameera White scored the equalizer before Radisson Banks delivered the game-winner in the 2-1 victory.

• Taylor Bellotti and Radisson Banks assisted on White's goal against Portland, while Cherrie Cox and Kailey Supa set up Banks for the decisive strike. It was the first goal of the season for both White and Banks.

• The Beach faced their first deficit of the season three days later at Grand Canyon. Cox erased the Lopes' advantage with her seventh goal of the year, scoring off assists from White and Sydney Beaumont to secure the 1-1 draw.

• Long Beach State has scored 14 goals on 98 shots, placing 46 attempts on frame. The Beach enter Saturday averaging 14.0 shots and 2.0 goals per match.

• Defensively, Long Beach State has allowed two goals through 630 minutes. The Beach have held opponents to 66 shots and 26 shots on goal while recording five shutouts.

• Utah comes to Long Beach with a 2-3-2 record. The Utes opened the season unbeaten through three matches but are winless in their last four following losses to Utah State, Utah Tech and Oregon and a 1-1 draw at Oregon State.

• Utah has scored seven goals and allowed five through seven matches. The Utes have taken 106 shots and placed 43 on goal while limiting opponents to 55 shots and 26 attempts on frame.

• Katie Callaway and Reese Clem share the Utah lead with two goals apiece. Callaway, Clem and Shannon Davidson are tied for the team lead with four points, while Davidson and Maddie Stoddard have each recorded two assists.

• Abby Affleck leads Utah with 17 shots, while Sophie Bellini and Kori Pickelle have taken 11 apiece. Affleck and Julia Oka share the team lead with six shots on goal.

• Anna Solomon has started all seven matches in goal for Utah, making 21 saves with a .808 save percentage and a 0.72 goals-against average. She owns a 2-3-2 record with three shutouts.

• Long Beach State entered the 2026 campaign following a 5-8-5 season in 2025. The Beach finished 2-4-4 in Big West play while scoring 21 goals and allowing 20.

• The Beach were picked seventh in the 2026 Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll with 72 points. Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara tied for the top spot with 100 points apiece, followed by Cal State Fullerton with 98.

• Cox and Banks were selected to the Preseason All-Big West Team. The two seniors have combined for eight goals, four assists and 20 points through the first seven matches.

PLAYER NOTES
• Aurora Schuck returned to the starting lineup for both matches last week, making five saves against Portland and a season-high seven at Grand Canyon. The senior stopped 12 of the 14 shots on goal she faced.

• Schuck has started six matches and played 540 minutes this season. She owns a 4-0-2 record with 23 saves, a .920 save percentage and a 0.33 goals-against average.

• Schuck continues to climb the Long Beach State record book. She ranks third with 14 career shutouts and 3,780 minutes in goal, fifth with 152 saves and seventh with 15 wins.

• Cherrie Cox contributed to both results last week, assisting on the game-winning goal against Portland before scoring the equalizer at Grand Canyon.

• Cox leads Long Beach State with seven goals and 15 points through seven starts. She has 30 goals and 12 assists for 72 points in 55 career matches, including seven game-winning goals.

• Cox ranks fifth in program history with 30 career goals and seventh with 72 points and 161 shots. She is also tied for sixth with seven game-winning goals.

• Cox was the 2023 Big West Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 13 goals. She was also named the 2022 Big West Freshman of the Year following a five-goal, five-assist debut season.

• Ameera White scored her first goal of the season in the win over Portland before assisting on Cox's equalizer at Grand Canyon. The sophomore leads the Beach with seven assists and ranks second with nine points.

• White has two goals and 13 assists for 17 points through 25 career matches. Her 13 career assists are the most among active Long Beach State players.

• Radisson Banks scored her first goal of the season and the game-winner against Portland. She is tied for the team lead with 20 shots and ranks second with 10 shots on goal.

• Banks has one goal and four assists for six points this season. She owns five goals and nine assists through 25 appearances at Long Beach State and has 11 goals and ten assists across 60 career Division I matches.

• Sydney Beaumont recorded the first point of her collegiate career with an assist at Grand Canyon. The freshman has started all five matches in which she has appeared and played 445 minutes.

• Taylor Bellotti recorded her second assist of the season in the victory over Portland. The freshman has appeared in all seven matches with four starts, totaling one goal and two assists.

• Zoe Willis has played every minute during Long Beach State's unbeaten start. The senior captain has helped the Beach record five shutouts while allowing only two goals through 630 minutes.

• Willis has started 50 of her 60 career matches and played more than 4,629 minutes. She earned Honorable Mention All-Big West recognition in 2025.

• Jordan Candelaria has started all seven matches in the midfield and played 454 minutes. The senior captain has five shots this season and enters Saturday with three goals and four assists through 58 career appearances.

• Kana Uchida has started all six matches in which she has appeared. The senior has played 443 minutes this season and owns one goal and six assists through 62 career appearances.

• Natalie Arnold made her first two starts of the season against Portland and Grand Canyon. She has appeared in all seven matches, playing 308 minutes, and has 40 career appearances with 22 starts.

• Kailey Supa has appeared in all seven matches with two starts. The junior has two goals and two assists for six points this season and seven goals through 42 career appearances.

• Cassidy Drago has appeared in all seven matches with six starts during her first season at Long Beach State. The BYU transfer has one goal and one assist while taking 12 shots.

• Ruby Mansour has started all seven matches on the back line and played 577 of a possible 630 minutes. She has helped the Beach post five shutouts while contributing four shots at the other end.

• Kylie Perez appeared in both matches last week and has now played in five contests this season. The senior has made 35 appearances with 19 starts during her Long Beach State career.

• Long Beach State is unbeaten at 5-0-2. The Beach have defeated Colgate, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Weber State and Portland while playing Saint Mary's to a scoreless draw and earning a 1-1 result at Grand Canyon.

• The Beach have scored first in six of their seven matches. Grand Canyon became the first opponent to take a lead against Long Beach State, but Cox's second-half equalizer preserved the unbeaten start.

• Long Beach State owns a 98-66 advantage in shots and a 46-26 edge in shots on goal. The Beach have also taken 33 corner kicks compared with 24 for their opponents.

• Long Beach State has scored 14 goals while allowing only two. The Beach have scored seven times in each half, while opponents have scored once in each period.

• Seven Long Beach State players have scored this season. Cox leads the way with seven goals, Supa has two and Banks, Bellotti, Drago, Uchida and White have each scored once.

• Cox and Banks are tied for the team lead with 20 shots. White has taken 13, Drago has 12 and Supa has six.

• Cox leads the Beach with 12 shots on goal, followed by Banks with 10 and White with eight.

• White's seven assists have already surpassed her team-leading total of six from last season. Banks has four, Bellotti and Supa have two and Beaumont, Cox, Drago, Emerson Obrist and Willis have one apiece.

• Four of Long Beach State's five victories have come by multiple goals. The 2-1 win over Portland was the Beach's first one-goal victory since defeating Colgate 1-0.

• Long Beach State and Utah have both been difficult to break down. The two teams have combined to allow seven goals through 14 matches, with eight combined shutouts.

• Utah has outshot opponents 106-55 but has been outscored 5-2 during their current four-match winless streak. The Utes were shut out by Utah State and Oregon, scored once at Utah Tech and played Oregon State to a 1-1 draw.

• The Utes have taken 47 corner kicks compared with 19 for their opponents. Utah enters Saturday averaging 15.1 shots and 6.7 corner kicks per match.

• Saturday's matchup features two teams that have controlled shot volume in different ways. Long Beach State has converted 14.3 percent of their shots, while Utah has scored on 6.6 percent of their attempts despite averaging more shots per match.

• Mauricio Ingrassia is in his 23rd season leading the Beach. He earned his 200th victory at Long Beach State on August 31, 2024, with a 2-1 win over Utah Valley and enters Saturday with a 214-151-62 career record.
