Steen Zeman To Compete In NCAA Championship Beginning Friday

Zeman is the first individual to represent Men’s Golf at the finals since 2012.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Graduate Steen Zeman has been at the top of this game for the last month, and will try to make sure that run continues as he represents Long Beach State as an individual this coming weekend at the NCAA Championship held at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Zeman began the month with an outstanding tournament at the Big West Championship, leading a historic 1-5 finish for the Beach at La Quinta Country Club as the Individual Medalist, finishing 11-under par to claim the title as the Beach picked up a dominant four-peat at the Championship.
Moving on to the NCAA Columbus Regional, Zeman punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship by finishing as the top golfer not on an advancing team. Zeman used a three-under 68 in the second round to help propel himself into a top five finish and move into the qualifying spot.
Zeman is one of six individuals to be competing against 30 qualifying teams in the NCAA finals. Stroke play will start with a traditional 54 holes over three days prior to a cut. The top nine individuals will continue against the top 15 teams in one final day of competition, leading to a full 72 rounds of stroke play from Carlsbad.
Zeman is the sixth separate individual and eighth competing individual at the NCAA Championships for Long Beach State. He is just the second since 1983, joining Philip Chian in 2012, and takes aim at the top individual finish for Long Beach State at the NCAA Championships, held by program legend and Master's champion Mark O'Meara.
