Zeman is the first player to represent Men’s Golf at the NCAA Championship since Philip Chian in 2012.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Long Beach State Men's Golf slipped out of the team qualifying spots on the final day of competition at the NCAA Columbus Regional, but had a bright spot as graduate Steen Zeman finished in the Top 5 and earned a spot as an Individual in the upcoming NCAA Championship.
Zeman was the top finisher from a non-advancing team, placing in fifth overall on the strength of a 3-under par 68 on Tuesday and a final round 74. He finished one stroke in front of Wilhelm Ryding of USF to claim the lone individual spot from the regional.
As a team, Long Beach State finished seventh overall. Top seed Florida was the winner of the Columbus Regional, with Stanford, Memphis and Arizona State along with Florida State claiming the team entries into the NCAA Championship.
Senior Jack Cantlay tied for 11th overall, finishing the tournament with a 75 Wednesday, while Alejandro de Castro Piera shot 76 and Krishnav Chopraa shot 77 on a challenging day that got off to a late start following a weather delay in Ohio.
Zeman will be just the second individual to play in the NCAA Championship for Long Beach State in the modern format, joining Philip Chian in 2012, and joins an elite list of six individuals to represent the Beach in that event in Mark O'Meara, Tony Campregher, Mike Miles, Bob Summers, and Chian.
NCAA Championship play will begin on May 29, held once again at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
