Gregory, Flores Earn Big West Weekly Honors After Standout Performances

Long Beach State seniors Ryan Gregory and Tristyn Flores were named Big West Men’s Field and Track Athletes of the Week following dominant performances across two meets.
LONG BEACH, Calif. --Â Long Beach State's Ryan Gregory and Tristyn Flores earned Big West Men's Field and Track Athlete of the Week honors, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
Gregory, a senior from Owatonna, Minnesota, claimed the field honor after a standout showing in the decathlon at the Bryan Clay Multis. Entering day two in sixth place, Gregory surged to finish third overall with 7,810 points, the second-best total in program history behind his own school record of 7,898.
He highlighted the competition with event wins in the javelin (58.71 meters/192 feet, 7 inches) and the 1,500 meters (4:26.21), while also recording a personal best in the 400 meters. His performance ranks first in the Big West, fourth in the NCAA West Region and among the top marks nationally this season.
Flores, a senior from Fontana, California, earned track honors after an impressive performance at the Big West Challenge Cup. He captured the 200-meter title with a time of 20.73, a mark that currently ranks No. 1 in the Big West, No. 22 in the NCAA West Region and No. 44 nationally.
Flores also played a key role in Long Beach State's winning 4x100-meter relay team, contributing to the Beach securing the team title at the meet.
Long Beach State returns to action this week as the Beach hosts the Pacific Coast Invitational and Beach Invitational while also competing on the road at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays.
