Held in Laguna Beach, California’s best teams are matching up with each other Friday and Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Beach Volleyball will once again take part in the Best of the West Tournament, hosted in Laguna Beach on April 3 and 4.
No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 USC, No. 6 Cal Poly and the Beach will all face each other, all getting four matches each over the course of two days in what promises to be great volleyball and a great test for LBSU.
Long Beach State (18-6) is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Texas Invitational. The Beach picked up wins over now No. 17 North Florida, No. 16 FAU and No. 11 LSU to solidify their spot in the Top 10 and among the nation's elite teams.
Brooke Birch and Kealoha Phillips went 4-0 at that tournament, earning key points in both of Long Beach State's 3-2 wins as well as the team's lone point against the hosts, No. 3 Texas. Seniors Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah have continued their strong play and are now 18-6 on the year, while Tineke Hinton and Demi Wagdy are 15-4 in another great start to the season.
This weekend's action begins on Friday, as the Beach takes on No. 4 USC at 10 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest with No. 1 Stanford. The Beach will then take on their conference rivals, No. 6 Cal Poly, to start Saturday's competition at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend against No. 2 UCLA at 3:30 p.m.
Results will be made available as they are received at www.longbeachstate.com.
