Beach Leads Men’s Field, Sits Third on Women’s Side After Day 1 at MPSF Championships

Long Beach State indoor track and field leads the men’s team race and remains in contention on the women’s side after a record-setting Sunday at the MPSF Indoor Championships at the Reno-Tahoe Convention Center.
RENO, Nev. — Long Beach State indoor track and field positioned itself for a strong championship push Sunday, as the Beach men moved into first place and the women sit third after the opening day of competition at the MPSF Indoor Championships at the Reno-Tahoe Convention Center.
The Beach men lead the team standings with 66.99 points, ahead of Cal State Fullerton (60) and Washington State (39). On the women's side, Long Beach State sits in third with 37 points, trailing UCI (75.5) and Hawai'i (39) with a full slate of finals remaining Monday.
MEN
Sophomore Tristyn Flores broke his own indoor school record in the 60-meter prelims, sprinting to a 6.67 to qualify second overall for Monday's final. The mark surpasses his previous record of 6.73 set in 2025. Sophomore Trey Sheron (6.71) and junior Dre'Londe Johnson (6.82) also advanced to the final, giving the Beach three finalists in the event.
In the field events, senior Steven Evans-Glynn delivered a record-breaking performance in the long jump, soaring 25-1¾ (7.66m) to reset the meet record. Miguel Orozco added three points with a sixth-place finish (23-5¼), while Quinten Flowers contributed two points in seventh (23-4).
Senior Tyler Knowles led the way in the weight throw with a winning mark of 66-8¾ (20.34m), while Eman Goodloe scored four points with a fifth-place finish (58-9¼).
The Beach also saw a strong showing in the pole vault, where Aidan Turner, Cytres Vives and Ryan Gregory each cleared 13-1½ (4.00m), tying for second and combining for 18.99 team points.
On the track, the distance medley relay team of Jones, Steward, Rhone and Gill placed second in 10:01.43 to add eight points to the team total.
The Beach sits in strong position in the heptathlon after four events.Junior Aidan Turner opened with a 6.89 in the 60 meters (922 points). Turner followed with a 23-6¼ (7.17m) long jump and a 46-11 (14.30m) shot put before clearing 6-0¾ (1.85m) in the high jump.
Junior Ryan Gregory clocked 6.90 in the 60 meters (918 points). Gregory added a 22-10 (6.96m) long jump, 40-2 (12.24m) in the shot put and 6-5½ (1.97m) in the high jump.
Senior Milo Orona also competed in the opening four events, posting a 7.28 in the 60 meters, a 21-7½ (6.59m) long jump, 39-11¼ (12.17m) in the shot put and 6-0¾ (1.85m) in the high jump.
The final two events will take place tomorrow.
WOMEN
Senior Trinity Barnett qualified first in the 60-meter prelims with a time of 7.35, tying for second all-time in program history (2019), and will compete in Monday's final.
In the field, junior KiiKii Brown claimed the conference title in the long jump with a leap of 6.14m, earning 10 points for the Beach.
Senior Giszelle Hrehor added another individual championship, winning the weight throw with a mark of 62-6½ (19.06m). Amanda Javellana scored one point with an eighth-place finish at 55-0.
In the pole vault, Jonelle Scott placed second at 12-8¾ (3.88m) to score eight points, and Grace Stoddart cleared 3.73m to finish eighth.
Long Beach State returns to action Monday, March 2, with championship finals scheduled in the 60 meters, 60 hurdles, 400 meters, 800 meters, mile, 4x400 relay, and multiple field events, as the Beach looks to maintain its position atop the men's standings and climb the leaderboard on the women's side.
