LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Long Beach State kept their winning ways going with a strong performance against Northern Colorado, closing out the Bears 10-4 from Smith Field at Loyola Marymount.

Long Beach State (3-0) got off to a quick start in the first inning with some classic small ball. Lina Apodaca worked a leadoff walk, took two bases off some wildness from Northern Colorado (1-2) starter Sadie Kahl, and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Avery Weisbrook to take an early lead.

A Northern Colorado solo home run from KK Christie evened the score briefly, but the Beach went back to work in the bottom of the second. A Kali Su'e single and two walks loaded the bases with no outs.

Plating one on a wild pitch, that left a base open for a walk to Emily Dowden, and then a sac fly from Nina Sepulveda and a hard liner by Apodaca scored two more runs as the Beach took a 4-1 lead after two.

Building on that momentum, Audree Lopetegui set down the Bears in order in the top of the third, and then on the first pitch of the bottom of the third, sophomore Priscilla Iniguez hit the first home run of the new season for the Beach, making the score 5-1. Audree Mendoza doubled and then scored on a second single from Su'e as the Beach extended their lead again.

In the fourth, Northern Colorado loaded the bases, but freshman Priscilla Ramirez was able to get out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts. The Beach added to their lead as Nina Sepulveda reached on an infield single and was pushed around with a wild pitch, a groundout, and a sac fly.

Northern Colorado took advantage of an error to pull back two runs in the top of the fifth, but Long Beach State extended their lead anyway in the bottom half. The Beach loaded the bases with no outs with singles from Su'e and Terrones, along with a walk. An RBI groundout followed by a single from Sepulveda made the score 10-3.

The Bears clawed back another run in the top of the sixth, but Jailynn Banda closed out the inning and then finished off the seventh as Long Beach State grabbed a third straight win.

Long Beach State finishes off the opening weekend of the season back at the LBSU Softball Complex on Sunday, hosting a rematch with Oregon State before taking on Utah. First pitch of the doubleheader on ESPN+ is scheduled for 10 a.m.
