Long Beach State Falls 4-3 to Loyola Marymount in Non-Conference Battle

The Beach claimed the doubles point but came up just short as LMU edged LBSU at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State women's tennis dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to Loyola Marymount in a non-conference matchup on Friday afternoon at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The Beach moves to 2-3 overall on the season following the narrow setback, while LMU improved to 4-2.
Long Beach State claimed the doubles point to open the match, earning wins on courts two and three. Johanna Hiesmair and Daria Malaescu set the tone with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, followed by Pamela Badillo and Thea Jagare securing a 6-2 win on court three to clinch the opening point. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished with LBSU holding a 5-4 advantage.
In singles play, Loyola Marymount rallied to win four of the six matches to seal the team victory. Cecilia Costa delivered a strong performance at No. 2 singles, earning a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win to put the Beach on the board. Diana De Simone added another point for LBSU with a three-set comeback at No. 3 singles, defeating Anastasia Bozova 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
LMU countered with wins at the top and bottom of the lineup. Lidia Gonzalez earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles, while Helene Schnack took a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 4. The Lions also picked up points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to secure the 4-3 team result.
Despite the loss, Long Beach State showed resilience throughout the lineup and pushed the match down to the final courts. The Beach will look to build on its early-season progress as it continues non-conference play in the coming weeks.
