Sophomore guard claims conference recognition for the second time this season after leading Long Beach State in scoring in back-to-back games
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- JaQuoia Jones-Brown was named the Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Monday, following a dominant two-game stretch in which she led Long Beach State in scoring in both contests and continues to shine as one of the league's premier players.
Jones-Brown averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while playing every minute of action across the two-game week, guiding the Beach to a key Big West victory over UC Riverside and delivering consistent production against both opponents.
The sophomore guard opened the week tying her career-high 29 points in a 75-72 win over UC Riverside, turning in one of the most efficient performances of her career. Jones-Brown shot 10-of-19 from the field, knocked down all three of her three-point attempts, and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. She added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals while logging all 40 minutes and accounting for nearly 39 percent of Long Beach State's scoring in the victory.
She followed that performance with another game-high effort on the road at Hawai'i, scoring 18 points while adding five rebounds and two assists. Jones-Brown again played all 40 minutes, shooting 7-of-16 from the field, 1-of-3 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 at the free throw line as she led the Beach offensively against the Rainbow Wahine.
For the week, Jones-Brown shot 48.6 percent from the field while continuing to shoulder one of the heaviest workloads in the Big West. Her ability to score efficiently, defend multiple positions, and remain on the floor for extended minutes has been a defining element of Long Beach State's season.
