Beach Closes Season Opener at New Mexico Team Open

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Long Beach State closed out the 2026 indoor track and field season opener Saturday with several top-five finishes on the final day of competition at the New Mexico Team Open.
The Beach men were led in the shot put by Jaylon Wells, who placed second overall with a best throw of 58 feet, 11½ inches (17.97m). In the triple jump, Quinten Flowers finished fourth overall after recording a mark of 46-8¼ (14.23m).
Long Beach State posted strong results in the 60-meter dash, highlighted by Trey Sheron's third-place finish in a time of 6.88. Sebastian Lopez added a fifth-place showing, crossing the line in 6.94. Earlier in the day, Dre'londe Johnson clocked a 6.91 in the event.
On the women's side, Jonelle Scott turned in a podium finish in the pole vault, placing third with a clearance of 12-11¾ (3.96m). KiiKii Brown followed up her Day One long jump performance with a third-place finish in the triple jump, posting a mark of 40-10½ (12.46m).
Long Beach State wrapped up the two-day meet with relay action, as the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Milani Bell, Brandee Hollins, Zamaria Mack, Jaliyah Davis and Trinity Barnett finished sixth with a time of 3:49.39.
Long Beach State will return to action at the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock, Texas, on Feb. 13.
