
No. 7 Men’s Water Polo Drops Close Contest On The Road Against No. 2 USC

Beach will close the weekend at Chapman on Saturday morning.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A strong third quarter by Long Beach State put the team back in the game, but the Beach ultimately fell to No. 2 USC, 13-9, on the road.
USC (5-0) scored first early in the first to take the lead. No. 7 Long Beach State (5-2) got on the board with centers Gabi Acosta and Corbin Stanley to lead the game 2-1. USC bounced back with two of their own to regain the lead once again but a buzzer beater goal by Artur Diaz tied the game at 3 after the first.
The second quarter saw a 4-0 run by the Trojans after a strong defensive effort by the hosts. A late goal by true freshman Zalán Nagy shortened the gap as the Beach trailed 7-4 at halftime.
A quick goal by USC extended its lead early in the third. Long Beach State pushed a 3-0 run behind goals from Marc Frigola and the Stanley brothers to close the gap to 8-7 with eight minutes left in the game.
USC added two early in the fourth to open a three-goal lead over the Beach. Senior Alec Johnson shortened the gap with an extra player goal but the Trojans answered back before Caleb Francisco added one. USC then capitalized on two more to close the game, 13-9.
