
Men’s Water Polo Faces No. 2 USC On Friday; Visits Chapman On Saturday

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a strong start to the season at the Triton Invite, Long Beach State will stay on the road to face No. 2 USC on Friday and Chapman on Saturday. The Beach went 5-1 on the opening weekend of competition and look to improve their record against the Trojans and the Panthers. The weekend could also mark a milestone for head coach Gavin Arroyo, who is one win away from reaching 300 career victories.
The Beach (5-1) was led by sophomore Gabi Acosta, who scored 25 goals in six games. Picking up where he left off last season, the All-American looks to once again pace the offense. Sophomores Corbin Stanley, Harper Stewart, and Artur Diaz each added double-digit goals to support Long Beach State's strong start. In goal, William Whitstone, Joe Jenness, and Sergi Ramon split time in the cage, combining for more than 50 saves.
The Trojans (4-0) also competed at the Triton Invite, finishing the weekend undefeated. USC opened with a 10-7 win over the host, No. 12 UC San Diego, followed by a 23-9 victory over George Washington. They closed out the tournament with wins over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara, 16-10, and No. 10 San Jose State, 20-13. Junior attacker Robert Lopez Duart led the Trojans with 12 goals, while senior Stefan Brankovic added eight. Goalkeepers Bernardo Herzer and Charles Mills split time, each recording 20 saves.
The Panthers (0-2) competed in the UC Irvine Invitational, dropping contests to No. 13 California Baptist, 20-3, and Concordia University, 20-12. Senior Nathan Jones scored four goals across the two games, while junior Davin Castillo added three goals and four assists. In goal, Jackson Sanders and David Yacoub shared time, tallying 11 saves apiece.
