LONG BEACH, Calif. – New Softball Head Coach Kendall Fearn continues to build out her staff, hiring Shelby Miller as an assistant coach, where she will work primarily with the pitching staff.
Miller has spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Fresno State, helping the Bulldogs to a 149-108 record during that span. Over the past two seasons, she has helped develop and guide back-to-back Mountain West Pitcher of the Year winners in Taylor Gilmore and Serayah Neiss.
"I am thrilled to welcome Shelby Miller to the Long Beach State Softball coaching staff! Shelby is an incredible person and mentor, plus a highly respected professional in the softball community," said Fearn. "Her coaching experience, pitching expertise, and application of data analytics will be a tremendous asset to our program! She brings a detail-oriented approach, strong relationship-building skills, and a deep passion for individualized pitcher development. Her track record of success, combined with her forward-thinking mindset, will elevate our team on and off the field. I am excited to watch her leadership take our pitching staff to the next level and inspire continued growth!"
Miller's coaching career includes stops at Utah Valley University and Kansas Wesleyan University before her time at Fresno State. At Utah Valley, Miller served as an assistant coach from 2019–20 before a brief stint as the interim head coach in 2020. While on staff at Kansas Wesleyan, Miller served as the interim head coach, assistant coach, and graduate assistant from 2016–18. During her time there, she helped lead the program to a conference championship, accumulating five first-team All-KCAC selections, three second-team honorees, six honorable mentions, and one Golden Glove winner.
"I'm humbled and honored to join Long Beach State and contribute to a culture that values grit, growth, and a championship mindset," said Miller. "From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt the energy, the pride, and the unwavering commitment to developing not just great athletes, but great people first. The Beach stands for more than just wins. It's about building strong, empowered student-athletes who thrive on and off the field. I'm incredibly grateful to Head Coach Kendall Fearn for trusting me with this opportunity. I cannot wait to get to work with this special group! Go Beach!"
Miller spent four years as a pitcher during her collegiate career from 2012–15 at Florida International University, where she was named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team in 2012. She earned a degree in hospitality and tourism management before earning an MBA at Kansas Wesleyan.
