Women’s Water Polo Defeats UC Davis On The Road, 10-7

Senior Chelsea Oliver posted a career-high of 16 saves to help the Beach secure the win.
DAVIS, Calif – Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Oliver's career-high of 16 saves led Long Beach State to an important road win against No. 16 UC Davis, 10-7 for conference play.
UC Davis (12-13, 2-3 Big West) got off to a quick start after capitalizing on an extra player situation. Amanda Price tied the game right after but the Aggies were able to respond quickly. Freshman Rita Gurri Capel tied the game one more time to make it 2-2 after the first quarter.
Long Beach State (14-10, 5-1 Big West) took the early lead after two straight goals from freshman Zelma Koka on back-to-back counter attacks. UCD got one back before a beautiful backhand goal from freshman Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez gave the Beach a two-goal lead. The Aggies scored a late goal as the Beach led 5-4 at halftime.
Spaniards Martina Cardona and Elisa Portillo both added penalty shots goals as LBSU maintained the lead on the second half, 7-5. The Aggies responded but junior Ellie Goren sneaked one in off a rebound to head into the last quarter, 8-6.
Goren opened the last quarter on an extra player opportunity and extended the Beach lead, 9-6. Oliver made crucial saves to hold off the Aggies. A late goal by Jamie Oberman gave the Beach an important win over UC Davis, 10-7.
The Beach will close regular season on the road for the Black and Blue Rivalry Game on April 17 at 7 p.m.
