
No. 9 Beach Volleyball Opens Husky Invitational With Two Wins

Long Beach State reached 20 wins on the season with two matches tomorrow in the tournament.
SEATTLE, Wash. – No. 9 Long Beach State picked up a pair of victories against ranked opposition on the way to reaching 20 wins, defeating No. 19 FIU and the hosts, No. 20 Washington in the first of two days from Alki Beach and the Husky Invitational.
Long Beach State (20-10) won their first match of the day 3-2 against the hosts, Washington (11-13). The first flight pair of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah continued their winning streak to get the first dual point. The Huskies answered back with a point at the fifth flight to tie the dual 1-1. The third flight pair of Haley Carrington and Natalie Glenn won a close second set to win their match in two. Up 2-1 in the duel, the fourth flight pair of Megan Widener and Skyler Germann also took their opponents in straight sets to clinch the dual for the Beach.
The second match of the day saw the Beach beat FIU (12-16). The first and fourth flights finished one after another to see the Beach jump to a 2-0 lead. The fifth flight pair won two competitive sets to clinch the second match of the day.
The Beach will take on Oregon and FIU tomorrow to finish the Husky Invitational.
