Beach Volleyball Finishes First Day Of Death Volley Invitational

Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah grabbed two more wins over top opponents.
BATON ROUGE, La. - The first and fifth flight pairs were able to grab big wins in the losses to top ranked opponents.
No. 9 Long Beach State (15-8) battled against No. 8 Texas (17-7) but fell just short. The fifth flight pair of Megan Widener and Demi Wagdy put the first dual point on the board with a dominant straight set win over their opponents. The first flight pair of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah put the second dual point on the board with a straight set win of their own. The second and third flight went to Texas. The dual came down to the fourth flight. Tineke Hinton and Mahala Esser were able to win the second set after dropping the first. The third set was close until Texas pulled away to win the match.
Megan Widener and Demi Wagdy once again were the first point on the board for the Beach. The duo played two close sets and were able to pull away to finish their match in straight sets. TCU (14-3) took the third and fourth flight. The first and fourth flight went to a third set where TCU closed out the match at the first flight.
Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah went back to their winning ways as they put up the only dual point for Long Beach State. LSU (17-7) was able to close out the last dual of the day 3-1 as the deciding point came from the third flight.
The Beach will play No. 7 FSU at 9:15 a.m. to finish the two-day tournament.
