
Senior Trio Honored As All-Big West Announced For Women’s Basketball

Senior Savannah Tucker was selected to the First Team while Patricia Chung, Rachel Loobie each earned Honorable Mention and JaQuoia Jones-Brown and Mykelle Richards were added to the All-Freshman Team.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State had five players in total honored Tuesday as All-Big West, with senior Savannah Tucker one of six players named to the First Team while Patricia Chung and Rachel Loobie both earned Honorable Mention as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Mykelle Richards and JaQuoia Jones-Brown were both selected as part of the six-player All-Freshman Team.
Savannah Tucker led both Long Beach State and the Big West in scoring this season. Tucker averaged 16.9 points per game for the Beach and scored nearly three points per game more than Aaliyah Stanton of Cal State Fullerton in league play, her nearest competition. Tucker also leads the league in minutes played, averaging 37.1 per game as a constant presence on the floor for the Beach.
Entering the postseason with 1,081 career points scored, Tucker is one of 27 players in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone, and ranks 22nd in program history in scoring before starting the Big West Championships.
Tucker is the most recent First Team All-Big West selection for Long Beach State since Justina King earned the honor after the 2020-21 season.
Senior Patricia Chung closes her five-year career at Long Beach State with an Honorable Mention All-Big West selection. Chung is averaging 9.2 points per game this season for Long Beach State while leading the team with 92 assists, averaging 3.2 per game, third-most in the Big West. Chung set a season high with 21 points scored against UC Irvine in the win March 1 in the Walter Pyramid, and has scored in double-figures 13 times this season.
Graduate transfer Rachel Loobie was selected as an Honorable Mention as well. Loobie led both the Beach and the Big West in rebounding at 8.7 boards per game, recording five double-doubles and leading Long Beach State in rebounding 15 times. She recorded a career high 18 rebounds with a double-double in Long Beach State's Black and Blue Rivalry win, and is averaging 9.1 points per game. Loobie also was added to the Big West All-Defensive team; the forward is fourth in the Big West at 1.39 blocks per game with 39 total this season while making 30 steals.
The Beach had two freshmen who were selected for the All-Freshman Team as well in JaQuoia Jones-Brown and Mykelle Richards. Richards is averaging 7.7 points per game while starting in 20 games, leading Long Beach State with 49 steals while shooting a team-best 48.3 percent from the field on the year. Jones-Brown is averaging 7.1 points per game, shooting 34.7% from three while making 21 steals and 37 assists on the year in seven starts for the Beach.
Long Beach State will start their postseason run on Wednesday at the Big West Championship Presented by Credit Union 1, taking on UC Riverside at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+ from Henderson, Nevada.
