Beach Tennis Opens DC Road Trip With 4-1 Win Over Georgetown

Long Beach State won their fourth in a row to start a three-match trip to the East Coast.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Beach Tennis rolled to their fourth win in a row, defeating Georgetown 4-1 in a strong start to their three-match road trip on the East Coast.
Long Beach State (5-2) opened up with a doubles point win. Coming off of an impressive win in the top flight in doubles last week, Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair continued their strong play with a 6-1 win at No. 1 to grab the first match. Ashley Kennedy and Katie Garofolo-Ro defeated Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare to even the doubles point, but Daisy Carpenter and Paulina Franco Martinessi won a tiebreak to grab the momentum for the Beach in a 7-6 (4) win at No. 3.
Jagare kept the momentum going, rolling to a 6-3, 6-2 win in the third flight as the top of Long Beach State's lineup led the way on Thursday. De Simone was also a straight sets winner 7-6 (3), 6-2 over Emily Novikov in the top flight to give Long Beach State a 3-0 lead in the match.
Georgetown (5-4) pulled back one match with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win by Garofolo-Ro against Daria Malaescu, but Cecilia Costa closed out the match with a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 win in the second flight as the Beach swept the top three singles matches. Johanna Hiesmair made her dual match singles debut for LBSU, but her singles match went unfinished as did Daisy Carpenter's against the Hoyas.
Long Beach State continues their busy trip with another match, taking on Navy starting at 10 a.m. PT, with live scoring and court cams available for the match.
