Martina Cardona led the Beach on offense with a hat trick while Chelsea Oliver stopped two penalty shots in regulation.

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Four quarters weren't enough to decide the winner between Long Beach State and UC Davis as the game was decided in overtime. Sophomore Chiara Amoroso's second overtime goal gave the Beach the win over the Aggies, 12-11, to secure the fifth-place spot at the 16-team Triton Invite.

Senior Martina Cardona led the offense with three goals while goalkeeper Chelsea Oliver stopped two penalty shots in regulation as the Beach finished the weekend with three wins and one loss.

The Beach (5-5) opened the score against the Aggies (5-5) with freshman Gaby Patenuede getting on the board. UC Davis answered back but Rita Gurri Capel added one to put the Beach back in the lead. With one minute left in the quarter, UCD would tie the game again but a late goal by senior Jamie Oberman gave the Beach the early lead, 3-2, after the first quarter.

Back-to-back goals with one minute into the second quarter by Spaniards Martina Cardona and Elisa Portillo extended the lead for Long Beach State, 5-2. Davis answered back but Cardona's second goal kept the Beach up by three. The Aggies closed the game scoring two straight goals. Portillo and Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez added one each to close the first half with the Beach up 8-6.

It took five minutes into the third quarter for the first goal of the second half with Oberman adding her second of the day. UC Davis added one right after to head into the fourth 9-7 in favor of the Beach,

Three straight goals by the Aggies gave them their first lead of the game with 3:30 left. Quinzada Gonzalez tied the game with 1:41 left but Davis got back on the lead with under one minute left in regulation. With 13 seconds on the clock, Cardona completed her hat trick and took the game into overtime, 11-11.

The first overtime period did not see as much actions as the regulation time. Sophomore Chiara Amoroso got on the board with 2:33 left in the second overtime to give Long Beach State the win and the fifth-place at the Triton Invite.
