Cantlay, Long Beach State Both Place Fourth At John A. Burns Intercollegiate

Cantlay climbed one spot on the leaderboard on the final day with a second straight 67.

LIHUE, Hawaii – Junior Jack Cantlay finished with his second straight 67 to close the John A Burns Intercollegiate in the Top 5, placing fourth overall as an individual as the Beach took fourth place as well in the 17-team field.
 
Cantlay finished in the top five for the third time in his career, finishing off three rounds in the 60s at the Ocean Course Hokuala to close the tournament eight-under par and three strokes off of the individual medalist, Gabriel Palacios of Utah.
 
"Really proud of Jack and his performance," said Long Beach State head coach Rob Murray. "He played great all week and it was really good for him to be in contention for the individual win."
 
Final Results
 
Alejando de Castro Piera was also under par for the tournament, closing 54 holes one-under par with a 20th place finish. Senior Clay Seeber had a strong finish to the tournament with a third round 70 to climb into a tie for 30th overall which he shared with fellow senior Charlie Forster as both finished the tournament two-over par.
 
Long Beach State finished off the tournament 5-under par as a team, five strokes behind Santa Clara. With the team's fourth place finish, No. 39 Long Beach State finished in front of four other programs all in the Top 30 in No. 20 San Diego State, No. 10 Illinois, No. 26 Texas A&M and No. 21 BYU.
 
Individual Krishnav Chopraa finished off a solid tournament with a 74, as the sophomore tied for 30th overall alongside Seeber and Forster.
 
"Overall I'm pleased with the finish in our first tournament for the spring, just couldn't quite get all of the putts to fall today," added Murray.
 
Long Beach State Men's Golf will be back in action in a week in a half, playing at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in Nevada from February 24-26.
