Women’s Water Polo Adds Three In Early Signing Period

Two goalkeepers and a utility player will be joining Long Beach State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Shana Welch has signed three exciting players to join the Women's Water Polo roster. "All three student-athletes bring immense talent, and accomplishments and will have a positive impact here at the Beach and we are so happy to welcome them," said Welch.
Polina Synytsia | Goalkeeper | Kharkiv, Ukraine
Joining the squad in Spring 2026, Polina Synytsia comes from European experience playing in the Ukraine National Team and in the German Water Polo league. Synytsia will bring immediate impact to the Beach defense in the following season.
Welch on Synytsia:
"We are excited to welcome Polina to the 2026 roster, with her international and national team experience she will continue to build on our defensive focus in the cage. She brings intensity and a hard work ethic and we are looking forward to adding her contributions and leadership to our program."
Carly Berzins | Utility | Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
The first signee of the 2027 roster, Carly Berzins, a utility player from Alta Loma High School, competed the past three seasons for the Lions will bring versatility for the Beach offense.
Welch on Berzins:
"Carly brings an elevated level of play coming from a great program, she has a high game IQ and she is a natural and talented all-around water polo player. More importantly we believe she is a wonderful person who will continue to build on our team culture here."
Bay Burnett | Goalkeeper | Arroyo Grande, Calif.
Another California product, goalkeeper Bay Burnett will join Long Beach State in the 2027 season. Burnett a product from Arroyo Grande High School competed three years for the Eagles making an impact of their defense.
Welch on Burnett:
"Bay is a natural leader in the cage and sets the example in and out of the pool. She has the qualities we look for in our student-athletes and she will be a great addition."
Long Beach State will open their 2026 season on the road at the Fullerton Mini on January 16 and 17.
