Back-to-Back Career Nights Land Jones-Brown Big West Player Of The Week Honor

LONG BEACH, Calif. — JaQuoia Jones-Brown is having herself a week.
The Long Beach State guard torched opposing defenses for back-to-back career nights, earning her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors. It's the Beach's first weekly award this basketball season.
Jones-Brown delivered two standout efforts, beginning with a then career-high 19 points against California Baptist. She surpassed that mark only days later with a dominant 29-point performance in a tightly contested matchup with Sacramento State. She led all scorers in both games and anchored the Beach on both ends of the floor.
"What was working today? Just being myself and having my teammates around me," Jones-Brown said. "Having them trust me and being that point guard for them. And then really just getting into my sweet spots, mid-range, threes, whether it's open or not, just doing what I know I can do."
Through four games, Jones-Brown is averaging 18.3 points per game (second in the Big West) and 6.3 rebounds. Her 29-point explosion came alongside a defensive lockdown by the Beach, who held Sacramento State to 57 points, more than 20 below the Hornets' season average.
Head coach Amy Wright has watched her floor general grow into the role.
"She really is a team player. She wants to get her teammates involved and I think she's embracing that role more and more," Wright said. "She's getting comfortable with our sets, our transition offense, where to take her shots, where to rotate the ball. She's just been exceptional down low. She is a big guard even though she's 5-6. She's very strong in the area and she can knock down the outside jumper. So, she's growing into it."
For Jones-Brown, the week proved what this team can be.
"This just shows what we're capable of doing," she said. "I hope my teammates and myself take notes on this because we're only going up from here."
The Beach look to keep the momentum rolling as they host San Francisco on Thursday in the Walter Pyramid, before heading to Oregon State to face the Beavers on the road over the weekend.
