Caleb Francisco’s hat trick not enough to offset a big third quarter for the Cardinal.

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 6 Long Beach State's winning streak came to an end on the road, as No. 4 Stanford was able to pull away from the Beach in the second half for a 19-11 win.

Junior Marc Frigola got Long Beach State (11-6) off to a great start against the Cardinal, scoring two of the first three goals of the contest as the Beach took an early lead at Stanford (9-4).

Stanford tied the game at 2-2, and then had a strong offensive stretch to close the quarter, taking the lead with just under four minutes remaining at 3-2, the first of four goals in four possessions to open up a 6-3 lead on the way to a 7-4 advantage at the end of the first.

The  Beach scored first once again in the second quarter, pulling to within two as Caleb Francisco netted a penalty shot with 6:32 remaining. Stanford ultimately was able to once again extend their lead before halftime, on top 10-6 with a goal from Botond Balogh in the last minute of the second quarter.

Stanford put the game out of reach in the third quarter, scoring six unanswered goals. Long Beach State responded with a late push in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Cardinal 5-3 in the final period, but the advantage was too much to pull back in the end.

Francisco had a hit trick for Long Beach State, leading eight goal-scorers for the Beach. William Whitstone finished with nine saves in goal for LBSU.

Long Beach State will return to Southern California, hosting Princeton in a non-conference matchup at LBCC on Thursday, October 16 before returning to conference play on the road at UC San Diego on Friday, October 17.
