All ten women’s tennis programs in the Big West will be participating in two main draws at UC San Diego.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis begins a new era under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Gertjan De Wilder as the Beach takes on the other Big West schools at the Big West Fall Tournament to begin the fall portion of the season.
Singles Main Draw
Doubles Main Draw
Emphasizing continuity, Long Beach State returns all eight players under the leadership of returning coach Gertjan de Wilder from last season's team that went 16-6 overall and returned to the ITA Rankings for the first time since 2016.
Long Beach State will be looking to build on that success, and will get a great benchmark to start the season as all ten teams will be competing in the tournament, hosted by UC San Diego from La Jolla, Calif.
The first round of competition will begin on Thursday, October 2, with the main draw continuing through Sunday, October 5 when the championship matches will be held. Singles and doubles competition for main draw losers will also be arranged in the days following October 2.
Senior Paulina Franco and reigning Big West Freshman of the Year Cecilia Costa, paired together again after earning First Team All-Big West honors last season were selected as the top seed for the 32-pair doubles draw, while Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare were seeded third as the sophomore duo returns. Daria Malaescu and Johanna Hiesmair will be paired, as will Daisy Carpenter and Pamela Badillo as all eight players will participate in the doubles draw.
In singles, Long Beach State had three players seeded. Long Beach State's two First Team All-Big West singles selections were both placed in the 5-8 seeds, with Cecila Costa opening against Sofia Dermenjyan of CSUN while Diana De Simone will open against My-Anh Holmes of UC Santa Barbara. Daria Malaescu was seeded in the 9-16 places, and will start against Susannah Su of UC Riverside.
Jagare, Hiesmair, Badillo and Franco will also compete in the main draw for singles, while Carpenter will sit out the opening draw.
