Long Beach State won the first of two matches in Eugene 6-1 over Seattle U.
EUGENE, Ore. – Long Beach State opened the dual season with a promising start, grabbing a 6-1 win over Seattle U from Oregon on Saturday. The Beach's only loss came in a third-set tiebreak as Long Beach State carried their momentum from last weekend to start their first road trip of the spring.
Long Beach State (1-0) opened the day with a strong performance in doubles, winning the top two flights to take the point. Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair combined for a 6-2 win in the top flight over Natalia Michta and Jade Quintana, with Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare clinching the point moments later with a 6-2 win of their own.
The Beach closed out the win over Seattle (0-2) with four quick singles wins. Daria Malaescu was the first finished with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lola Tavcar in the third flight, while De Simone grabbed her second point of the day for LBSU with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win in the second flight.
Thea Jagare was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Daria Nazarenko in the fourth flight to clinch the win, while Pamela Badillo had a big bounceback in the fifth flight. After falling 6-2 in the first to Natalia Michta, Badillo rolled to a 6-0 win in the second set and won the third 6-4 to pick up Long Beach State's fifth point on Saturday.
With the match secured for the Beach, the final two matches went to 10-set tiebreakers. Daisy Carpenter was a 10-6 winer in her tiebreak against Larissa Teramura, while Cecilia Costa battled back to force a third set tiebreaker with a 7-6 second set win, but ultimately fell 6-3, 6-7, 10-3 to Redhawks star Lamija Advic.
