Long Beach State Unbeaten In Final Day Of Beach Tennis Winter Invite

Long Beach State finished the tournament with a combined record of 30-6 as a team over three days at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Tennis was a perfect 12-0 on the third and final day of competition of the Beach Tennis Winter Invite, finishing the tournament on a high note from the Rhodes Tennis Center with four doubles wins and eight singles victories on Sunday.
"Coming into the final day of a three day tournament, to sweep all of our matches was an impressive effort," said Long Beach State head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm very proud of the team."
Long Beach State's young team started out the day with a dominating effort in doubles to set the tone for the day. Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair defeated Sara Zalukar and Emilia Valentinsson of Miami of Ohio 6-4, with the top flight being the closest match of the day for Long Beach State in doubles.
Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare cruised to a 6-2 win over Malu Oliveira and Lauren Joyce 6-2, while Paulina Franco Martinessi and Daisy Carpenter did the pair one game better, winning 6-1 over Avery Voss and Lovisa Valentinnsson. Daria Malaescu and Pamela Badillo finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win over Nishitha Saravanana and Sarah Dev.
Diana De Simone cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win to finish off a perfect 3-0 weekend in the singles flight against Portland's Isabella Marquart. Daria Malaescu was the first finished on the day with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Maria Galatescu, and Cecilia Costa rounded out three top flight wins by rebounding for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Alaia Rubio Perez in the top flight. Thea Jagare outlasted Aleks Dimitrijevic 7-5, 7-6 and Pamela Badillo won a three-set match 6-1, 2-6, 6-1.
Daisy Carpenter cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Lexie Flores of Portland. Johanna Hiesmair finished her first collegiate win with two wins each in singles and doubles after a 6-1, 6-2 victory Sunday, while Paulina Franco Martinessi finished off the day's action with a super-tiebreak win over Meagan Pearson, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
Yuliia Zhytelna of CSUN won all three of her matches in singles at the top flight, claiming the singles championship while Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez edged Costa and Hiesmair on point differential to take the doubles championship of the 2024 Beach Tennis Winter Invite.
Long Beach State will now begin dual match play, traveling to Eugene, Oregon next weekend for two matches. The spring dual season will open on Saturday, January 25 as the Beach takes on Seattle U in a neutral matchup before taking on the Oregon Ducks on Sunday.
